CIU Academic Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gür’s Book “Development in Early Childhood” Published

A book on “Development in Early Childhood (36-72 Month)” edited by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çağla Gür, Lecturer of Early Childhood Education at the Elementary Education Department of the Faculty of Education, Cyprus International University (CIU) has been published.

Gür said the book was prepared considering 36 and 72 month old children and it includes both theoretical knowledge and practice studies. Gür stated that the book is written considering the care and educational environment that support the development of early childhood and she said thus the children will have the chance to achieve better learning outcomes in education and have a more qualified life in work and health in the following years.

Gür mentioned that each child is unique, however, all children in general have a certain pattern of speed and development. Gür stated that the first experiences shape the structure of the human brain and it would greatly affect the nature of the future abilities that the child will have. Gür said "If we understand the child correctly in the early years and provide the necessary support, we can see today's children as well-grown adults in the future." 

The book, published by Pegem Academy, has nine sections that take development areas into consideration. Gür mentioned the sections as “Early Childhood and Development ”,“Physical Development”, “Motor Development“, ”Cognitive Development”, ”Language Development“, ”Social-Emotional Development”, “Personality Development”, “ Moral Development and Sexual Development.”

Gür also pointed out that the book can be used as a textbook, and basic concepts for each area of development are included according to the developmental characteristics of the 36-72 month old children, the views of the theoreticians related to the development area, the factors affecting the development, and the relationship with other developmental areas are also included.
