CIU Academic Announces that 2018 World Tourism Day should be evaluated within the Scope of ‘Smart Tourism’
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Orhan Uludağ, Director of the School of Tourism and Hotel Management, Cyprus International University (CIU), said September 27th is celebrated as World Tourism Day by the United Nations to increase awareness of Tourism.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Orhan Uludag said this year's World Tourism Day (WTD) aims to reveal the opportunities provided for tourism by the sustainable development map, including large data, artificial intelligence, and digital platforms including technological advances.
Uludağ said he views the growth of the World Tourism Organization with digital progress and innovations as part of the solution.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uludağ mentioned the views of The Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization, saying “Taking advantage of innovation and digital progress offers tourism opportunities to improve inclusiveness, local community strengthening, and efficient resource management as well as other objectives within a broader sustainable development agenda.”
Uludağ stated that the 2018 World Tourism Day should be evaluated within the scope of ’Smart Tourism’ in North Cyprus. Uludağ said ‘Smart City’ and ‘Smart Sector’ will contribute to the development of the main arteries of various initiatives which will contribute to digital progress through innovation.
Uludağ said especially within the scope of the Smart Sector smart phone hotel applications, personalized services, kiosks, smart waiters, smart rooms, children's tracking bracelets, hotel resource management and even staff performance management should be among the elements to be spread among all the stakeholders and should be among the primary goals.
Uludağ, said he celebrates all tourism sector representative on ‘World Tourism Day’.
