Celebration of Journalists Day from the Faculty of Communication of CIU
Cyprus International University (CIU), Faculty of Communication, published a message of celebration on January 10th, Working Journalists’ Day.
Prof. Dr. Hikmet Seçim, Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Cyprus International University, made explanation speech on the "Working Journalists Day" which provides certain rights and legal guarantees to press employees in Turkey and which has been celebrated since 1961, after it was published in the Official Gazette on January 10th as “Law No 212”.
Seçim pointed out that journalists struggle for the right of citizens to receive information, which is one of the most important principles of democracy, often reach information under difficult conditions, and share the information they have reached in an honest, fair and impartial manner, and have an extremely important sacred duty.
Seçim said “Journalism in which multilateral and multi-voice broadcasting can be made is the most ideal journalism” and he stated that the profession of journalism is a very strong and effective profession globally. He also stated that journalists, who have functions like directing society and creating public opinion, play an important role in public awareness.
Seçim pointed out that the journalist profession is one of the most difficult, the most dynamic, and at the same time the most self-sacrificing professions. He celebrated January 10th, the journalists' day of all journalists, who fulfill their self-sacrificing duties nowadays.
