About the Program
The aim of the Ph.D. program is to give students the ability to conduct independent research, interpret and analyse scientific events with a broad and deep perspective, and determine the steps necessary to reach new syntheses. In the PhD program, there are 1 seminar and 7 elective courses with a total of 21 credits, and field proficiency exams applied before starting the thesis study. In the course selection, specialization in the field of science (Folk Literature, Old Turkish Literature, New Turkish Literature, and Turkish Language) is aimed. The seminar course and thesis work are non-credit and are evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. The student has to register for each semester of thesis study at the beginning of the third semester at the latest. Admission to the Ph.D. program is subject to a master's degree in the related field of study, and in the case of acceptance to the programme from other disciplines, the Scientific Preparatory program is applied according to the evaluation of the master's degree. The thesis that will be prepared at the end of the Ph.D. study must fulfil one of the qualifications; to bring innovation, to develop a new scientific method, or to apply a known method to a new field.
The Turkish Language and Literature Ph.D. Program helps to meet the needs of university faculty members in one of the fields of Folk Literature, Old Turkish Literature, New Turkish Literature, or Turkish Language. The program aims to accelerate the development of Turkology studies by researchers and academicians.
