Turkish Language and Literature

About the Program

The Turkish Language and Literature Master’s Program aims to allow students to succeed in scientific research, to gain the abilities to both evaluate and interpret their knowledge, and to prepare those who wish to progress to the PhD level. The thesis Master’s Program consists of not less than 21 credits stemming from two compulsory and five elective courses (seven in total), a seminar course, and the thesis itself. The elective course branches of Folk Literature, Old Turkish Literature, New Turkish Literature, and Turkish Language are aimed at specialization. The seminar course and the thesis studies are non-credit, being evaluated as satisfactory or unsatisfactory. The student has to be registered from the beginning of the semester, and until the third semester. A thesis Master’s Degree program is limited to four semesters. The instruction of the program has been as such since the 2008-2009 academic year and is the quotas are determined by graduate numbers; Art and Science Faculties Turkish Language and Literature, Linguistics, Education Faculties, Turkish Language, and Literature, Turkish Education Departments.

 

Educational Opportunities

The Turkish Language and Literature post graduate program student will be able succeed in one of these branches; Folk Literature, Old Turkish Literature, New Turkish Literature, Old Turkish Literature or Turkish Language. Students who would like to specialize in the branch of Turkish Language and Literature will succeed in the skills of both Turkish and international verbal and printed cultural materials compilation in their PhD education. The academic enforcement is related to both the Old and the New Turkish Literature branches. Students aiming to specialize in the Old Turkish Language and the New Turkish Language scientific branches, focus on whether history or modern dialects relate the information of the modern linguistics structures of Turkology disciplines as a principle study.

 

Career Areas

The title of professional will be held by the graduates of the Masters Program of Turkish Language and Literature. Graduates from these programs will have the opportunity to find a job in libraries, archives, at the Ministry of Culture, radio and television and, in such media establishments, programme executive producers, news editors, and speakers. They can become “lecturers” in higher education. Those with teaching certificates can find jobs as a “teacher” in secondary schools. Those who are especially talented can become “authors” or “editors” in newspaper and magazine work areas. They can work in the Middle Asia Turkish Republic. They can further their academic lives by progressing to PhD education. They can grow themselves as academicians through the following courses at the PhD level; Turkish Language, Folk Science, Old and New Turkish Literature branches. They can also develop through many different studies in the discipline of social sciences.
