About the Program
Today, with the rapid improvement of technology in the sectors of machinery, electronics, computer hardware, and computer software, alongside the development of industrial automation, we have started to use intelligent machines and robots in the industry, leading to a need for a new engineering field that can find a place in all stages of the development of these new technologies. A mechatronic product consists of motor systems for generating mechanical power, mechanical systems for transferring power, sensors for sensing changes, microprocessor for controlling the system, and computer programs that control the entire system or machine in a central or distributed structure. Mechatronics Engineering is a combination of related fields of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical-Electronics Engineering and Computer Engineering in order to design and manufacture the above mentioned technologies. The Mechatronics Engineering Program is a unit that enables quality engineers who can utilize time, resources, and workpower economically and at the same time make technological designs by using today's technology and engineering productivity in the most productive way while considering environmental factors.
Education and training activities in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering are provided in laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and in classrooms with all the technological facilities required by our time. There are eight faculty members who have completed master's and doctoral degrees in qualified and well-known universities. Mechatronics Engineering students also take courses together with students in the Mechanical Engineering and Computer Engineering departments as well as the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department. In this way, our courses are carried out in a multi-disciplinary manner and the colaboration of students from different disciplines is ensured. The faculty members are composed of experienced academicians who carry out scientific studies in their own fields of expertise, conducting thesis advisories to graduate and doctoral students. Our program's language is English. Thanks to the English language education, which is a global language, our students will be able to easily follow references written in English and improve themselves while working on their courses and practicing their profession throughout life.
Mechatronics Engineering has a wide range of applications and working areas. It is necessary for mankind to get help from machines to do tasks that are too heavy to be done with human power, too small and detailed enough to be done with human sensitivity, or that are too dangerous. Mechatronic Engineers play a major role in designing and manufacturing these machines. Applications of Mechatronics Engineering include: Health Robots, Agricultural Robots, the Automotive Industry, Micro Electromechanical Systems (MEMS), Flying Robots, Robot Vision, Industrial Automation, Smart Weapons and Weapons Systems, Micro Robots, Mobile Robots, and Industrial Robots. Industrial companies operating in these fields in the world need educated engineers in this new field and the Cyprus International University Mechatronics Engineering Program is a unit that provides engineers with the qualifications needed by these companies.
