To understand literary science, words, concepts, and methods used in Contemporary Turkish Literature will be covered. The scope, limitations, periods, frequently used methods, and basic poetry terms will be examined. With the Westernization of the Ottoman Era (the Lale Period, Embassies, the French Revolution, the Imperial Edict of Reorganization, the Royal Edict of Reform, Education-Learning Activities, Writers, the Privy Council, Estates, Translations, Newspapers), changes in socio-political life, differences between the classic and contemporary poems, theatre as a new style and its development will be explored. The life, publications, thoughts regarding published, and literary perspectives of first generation reorganization authors like Şinasi, Ziya Pasa, and Namık Kemal will be examined. Namık Kemal, Şemsettin Sami, Mizanci Murat, and Ahmet Mithat Efendi's works will also be analyzed.

The goal of Turkish language and literature education is to teach knowledge and theories from related areas in an applied manner. By knowing basic literary knowledge and theories, this course will cover the art of literature, its relationship with other fields, its functions, literary products, the development of literary styles, the definition of poetry and prose, its characteristics, and types and forms of poetry. Literary concepts, their relationships, comparing factors that determine poetry and prose, and topics and outcomes used in literature are taught. Language-expression problems are determined and corrected. Prosody, literary expression styles and forms will be covered with application. Literary schools will be understood. Students with a detailed, flexible, and in-depth thought skills will gain the necessary knowledge regarding Turkish literature.

TURKISH GRAMMAR-I: PHONOLOGY AND MORPHOLOGY-I
This course begins with the basic concepts of Turkish grammar and language analysis are taught via these basic principles. The status of Turkish among world languages, typology and kinship among world languages, main language groups, and sub-branches are examined. Within the language unity where Turkish stands, common sounds, structures, and syntax with other languages are explained with examples. The formation of Turkish, speaking times, sounds according to formation areas, and how these sounds are depicted in written language will be discussed. Sound harmony and changes based on environmental factors will be introduced with examples. Coinage in Turkish, suffix functions in word proccessing, and the relationship between suffix and word root are supported with applications. Methods of coinage, without derivations, are classified according to specified samples.

OTTOMAN TURKISH-I
This course will introduce the Arab alphabet used in Ottoman Turkish from the 15th Century until the first quarter of the 20th Century and cover letter connections and written sounds. Structural characteristics of words in Turkish, Arabic, and Farsi will be examined along with written vowels in Turkish words with word root suffixes. Infinitive forms of Arabic words and knowledge of existing templates will be covered in addition to pre-conjugations styles in Arabic. Relational styles in Arabic and Farsi will be introduced and compared with the structure and meaning of Turkish propositions. Finally, the writing and structure of Ottoman Turkish is supported with the reading of selected poetic and prosaic texts, translations using the transcription alphabet, and writing with the classic alphabet will be done.

The course introduces students with basic speech patterns at the elementary level. Through listening students will identify different sound rhythms and practice pronounciation of letters, words and phrases. Through speaking students will identify different register and use the given language in an appropriate way. In addition students will be able to define themselves or others, answer questions in the Present Simple tense, use the prepositions of place, and talk about their daily routines. Through reading students read paragraphs and simple texts to improve their general comprehension of the passages, and answer the given comprehension questions. Through writing, students will be able to compose guided,controlled paragpahps in the Present Simple tense, and recycle the obtained new vocabulary to produce their own sentences.

This course is taught with a holistic approach that incorporates literature knowledge and theories both theoretically and applied.

With the standardization of written Ottoman Turkish in the second half of the 15th Century, changes throughout the first quarter of the 20th Century will be examined via texts. Letters, styles of how letters are reflected as sounds will be covered via grammar and connections will be demonstrated. The structure of words and changing meanings in Turkish, Arabic, and Farsi, and information on word structures and conjugations will also be given. Reading and transcription exercises from 19th Century printed Turkish literary texts will be done. Pre-19th Century written text structure, general features of handwritten pieces, and various forms of calligraphy will be introduced and writing exercises will be done. Dictionary and other Ottoman Turkish word sources will be introduced.

This course focuses on standard language, word structures, meanings, and main features are grouped within itself. Terms of structure and simple, derivative, and compound words in Turkish are examined. Informaiton on basic meaning, connotations, word meanings, and figurative meanings are given where connections between meaning varieties among word and dictionary are established. The role of meaning changes in term areas are discussed. Based on its use, sub-type boundaries and differences are determined between nouns, adjectives, pronouns, and adverbs. The content of verbs, their meaning and duties in syntax are examined. Crossovers in nouns and verbs in gerundials are explained. The effects of words with duties like prepositions, conjuctions, and exclamations are shown in sentences. Debates regarding transitions between word types are also covered.

INGL122 is the continuation of INGL121. The course integrates the four main skills at a higher elementary level for students. Through recessive skills, which are listening and reading, students identify different sound rhythms and practice the pronunciation of letters, words and phrases. Also, by reading higher level paragraphs and texts, students infere the meaning of new words by using their existing vocabulary. Through productive skills, which are speaking and writing, students identify different register and use the given language in an appropriate way. Furthermore, students use the Present Continuous and Past Simple tenses to participate in basic dialogues and daily exchanges, and express themselves effectively. Also, through writing, students produce their own sentences by recycling the obtained new vocabulary in guided, controlled paragraphs they compose.

This course starts with the introduction of linquistics, content, theoretical framework, and the methodological differences between grammar and this scientific field are explained. Before structural linquistics, the historical process of language analyses is given following Saussure's modern linquistics establishment and primary concepts. In this course types of signs are introduced, where schools after Saussure, who focused on the separation of language and word, and Chomsky's relationship between competence and performance, are emphasized. Methods used in basic areas of linquistics such as phonology and morphology are introduced, phonem and morpheme theories are covered. The course will cover Turkish dialects other than Turkey's Turkish and focus on writing Turkish with different alphabets. Ghuzz, Kıpcak, Karluk, and other branches of Turkish dialects will be classified according to linguistic measures. Focus will be on the Ghuzz group and the historical chronology of Azerbaycan Turkish is used where Arab, Kyril, and Latin alphabet based text analyses will be done. This Turkish dialect's phonetic, morphological, and syntactic features are examined. Turkmen and Gagavuz Turkish dialect commonalities and differences will be shown via texts. CLASSIC ANATOLIAN TURKISH
13th century Ghuzz Turks established and developed what is known as today's Turkish based on their own dialect. The developmental process of Classic Anatolian Turkish is covered. Sources of Ghuzz dialects, 13 centuries ago, are examined and connected with other historical Turkish dialectic resources. The unique phonetic and mophological features of this written language is divided into individual periods of the Seljuck, Beyliks, and the Transition to Ottoman Turkish. Key features of historical text transmission are taught, which starts with printed texts in the form of essays. Hand written works are analyzed and transcribed. Selected works from Dede Korkut, Süheyl ü Nevbahar, and Yusuf u Zeliha, which reflect the linguistic characteristics of the era, are analyzed and evaluated using field resources.

The concepts of folk and folklore are explained with their historical process and the development and systematics of folklore are determined. During periods where individualism did not start, the development of universal folklore, mutual cutlural data, and the change-exchange processes amongst them will be analyzed. The history of folklore and its function will be transmitted from both domestic and international sources. Folklore methodology history, geographical, sociological, and psychological perspectives will be examined. The historical development line of Turkish folklore, the contributions of the first works of foreign folklorists to Turkish folklore in the form of completed biographical and documentary research will be analyzed.

This course aims to examine the place and importance of Turkish culture among world cultures and with a historical perspective, it will examine the changes and developments the Turkish culture has gone through. Then factors associated with the formation of the Turkish culture will be analyzed from a historical perspective. Differences between culture and civilization and approaches examining this differences will be followed by factors creating the Turkish culture with focus on language, writing, science, dress, art, religion, and other culture spreading tools. HISTORICAL TURKISH DIALECTS
Historical Turkish dialect formation conditions and developmental stages are examined and the writing, sounds, structure, and meaning of Karahanlı Turkish is examined. General characteristics of the transition are reflected in Kutadgu Bilig, Atabetü’l-Hakayık and Divanu Lugati’t-Turk. Language specifics are analyzed with selected texts. Findings from analyses are compared with Kokturkish and Uigur, which aided in the writing process of Karahanlı Turkish. The role of this written language in the transmission of Harezm and Cagatay dialects, which emerged after Karahanlı Turkish, are set forth. When Western Turkish was the writing language, which aspects of Eastern Turkish served as a source for written and language characteristics are researched and issues of mixed language works are discussed. Translations changes in Turkish words and today's word existence are evaluated.

City states, socio-economic and cultural transformations leading to the restructuring of the state, democracy, slavery, law and law supremacy, which surfaced during this transformation, are examined in detail. Written characterstics and grammatical structures of Arabic and Farsi are covered. Applications related to the topic include examining sample texts and understanding them. The structure of Arabic words, fundamental and ascetic letters, the rhythym of Arabic words, Arabic number names, and various infinitives will be taught. The structure of Farsi words, Farsi numbers, Farsi derivative names, Farsi derivative prefix and suffixes, Farsi compound adjectives, Farasi adverb groups, and Farsi structural noun phrases will also be taught. Analyses will be done using hand written texts. Ottoman writing styles including Divan, letters and other sources will be used for analysis. Arabic, Farsi, and Turkish words will be sought out in these texts.
